Most people think saffron is just “good” if it’s expensive or sold in a nice package. In reality, quality saffron is easy to recognize once you know what to look for.
The first sign is color. High-quality saffron should contain deep red threads only. Yellow or pale sections usually mean lower quality or unnecessary weight added to the product.
The second thing is aroma. Real premium saffron has a strong, rich smell that you notice immediately after opening the container. Weak aroma usually means weak potency.
One simple test is adding a few threads to warm water. Low-quality saffron often releases dull color quickly without much depth. High-grade saffron creates a vibrant golden-red color gradually and naturally.
At Laviaan, we also believe origin matters. Single-origin saffron from known regions is much more likely to be authentic and carefully handled than generic mixed imports.
And most importantly: consistency matters more than quantity. Saffron works best when it becomes part of a daily ritual.
